Sport journalists as press secretaries of sportsmen or sport clubs-ethical issue

Diploma thesis "Sport journalists as press secretaries of sportsmen or sport clubs - ethical issue" deals with the problem of sport journalists who work for sportsmen, sport clubs or associations at the same time, often as press secretaries, authors of articles on their websites or press conference organizers and presenters. This could be considered as a conflict of interest and can affect his/her work for media, for example agenda setting or content of the stories. This thesis focuses on two main problems: how Czech codes of ethics deal with conflict of interest and how editors-in-chief of sport columns think about conflict of interest. The last part of this thesis is a case study of selected sport journalist who is in conflict of interest.

Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism

Bachelor paper Satirical Image of Journalist in World Movie as a Reflection of Journalism aims mainly to show how journalistic profession is depicted and criticised in satirical movies about journalism by analysing some of those movies. The first part of the paper generally summarizes history of journalism in film and talks about journalism film as a genre and about ambivalent cultural perception of journalists. Second part of the paper is about particular satirical movies. To expose this specific approach to journalism film, five movies were selected. These movies are analysed in detail. The paper briefly summarizes plots of these movies and links them to real people, events and other related phenomena. Furthermore, the paper analyses particular characters of journalists from selected (and related) movies, and compares these characters with common movie journalist stereotypes (as they were described by Brian McNair). Means of satire, used in selected movies, are also analysed, as are objects of satire. The paper also briefly describes reception of selected films (critical reception, financial outcome and reactions of offended personalities). Selected court decisions in ethically problematic cases of czech journalism since 1989

The thesis deals with ethical standards in journalism from the perspective of the law and with their practical application. The text explains the basic problems of normative influence on journalism and it is focused on case interpretation. The author has chosen relevant cases of failure of the Czech media after 1989 (e.g. Rejžek vs. Vondráčková, Horký vs. Reflex or the "Kuřim case") where the breach of the law occured and a judicial or administrative decision was given. The important facts of each case are presented and generally applicable points of the decisions are analysed. Afterwards, these points are summarized and related to other cases. The thesis is structured from the general definition of normative theories, ethical standards, legal provisions and their comparison to case analysis.
